Call to STOP the RCV Ban for Presidential Primaries

In June, the Democratic National Committee’s rules panel quietly added language to the 2028 delegate selection rules that bans state parties from using ranked choice voting in their own presidential nominating processes. Twelve state parties have used ranked choice voting somewhere in that process over the last two cycles — and not one of them was invited to present before the vote. This isn’t about whether you love RCV. It’s about whether the national party should strip states of a tool that’s working for them — a tool that more than doubled primary turnout in Wyoming and nearly quadrupled it in Kansas — while banning RCV sits on the Heritage Foundation’s priority list and inside Project 2025. Democrats should not be doing Republicans’ work for them.

There’s one chance to fix it: a vote of the full DNC membership in Austin this August. The fix is simple — strike the ban language and return the rules to what they’ve always been, with every state deciding for itself. No one would be required to use ranked choice voting; states would simply keep the right to choose. Here’s how you can help: contact any DNC members you know and ask them to support removing the ban — and join the People’s Call on Thursday, July 28 at 8:30 PM ET / 7:30 PM CT, where state party leaders who’ve actually run these elections share what’s at stake.
